Music festivals involving local primary schools

As a school, we understand the power of the arts and creativity. We understand that involvement in the arts can be transformational for young people. We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the Silver Artsmark. Our Statement of Impact was assessed by the Arts Council and our award was announced April 2023. It is available to read below.

We are very proud to have achieved this prestigious award which demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing a varied and engaging range of learning opportunities within the arts for children who attend our school.

Feedback from the Arts Council is shared below:

“Weaverham High School listens to the voice of its students and, more importantly, follows up on their suggestions. Students requested training in sound and lighting resulting in several Year 9 students undergoing training with ABD, a local lighting and sound company. In direct response to student feedback, photography, construction, and graphics are going to be introduced at KS4 in September 2023. Art Ambassadors have facilitated workshops in drama, dance and DT with local primary schools and they also communicate about arts activities with their peers using Google Classroom and support at the school’s arts and cultural events. A number of students choose to regularly access arts and culture-based learning beyond the time tabled day. Students are clearly enthused by the Arts, and this is very much reflected in their KS 4 achievements. The profile of dance has been raised with the appointment of a new dance teacher and a newly equipped dance studio. There are many opportunities for students to create and perform.”

At WHS we are constantly striving for excellence. We have already begun to action the feedback that the Arts Council provided us with and will shortly be submitting our next statement of commitment. We are ambitious and intend to secure the Gold award in our next bid.

Here’s some examples of creative excellence.
