Knowledge Organisers
What are Knowledge Organisers
Knowledge Organisers.
In order to support our pupils in their learning, all departments will provide them with access to a range of Knowledge Organisers. Every subject will provide detailed and highly specialist Knowledge Organisers which will enable pupils to easily access the key knowledge that is required for success in that area of the curriculum. Our Knowledge Organisers will provide the following support to our learners;
- In the case of absence, knowledge organisers will provide pupils with the key content that they have missed in the lesson, therefore enabling them to catch up and fill in any missing gaps in learning.
- Provide key specialist terminology and vocabulary which will enable pupils to acquire crucial tier two and tier three language in that subject, therefore guaranteeing a confident level of specialist learning in that subject.
- Through reduction and transformation of key information presented in the Knowledge Organisers, pupils will be able to access key content in a range of memorable ways.
- Memory, retention and retrieval of content will be easier and application of understanding smoother, due to pupils having ready access to knowledge throughout the course.
- Consolidation, revision, flip-learning will also be easier for pupils as the Knowledge Organisers will enable them to keep all content current. Returning to prior learning and in some cases projecting their learning forward at a pace that is suitable for them as a learner.
Knowledge Organisers should be used in the following ways;
- Revise key content for low-stakes quizzing, assessments, key marked pieces and exams.
- Revise and memorise key terminology and vocabulary that can be used in lessons.
- Address gaps in learning due to absence or misconceptions.
- Use KOs as an accompaniment to exercise books and class notes.
- Apply the Knowledge Retrieval strategies learnt in lessons when using the Knowledge Organisers (See Knowledge Retrieval handout).
