Digital Learning Provision

At Weaverham High School we recognise that the effective use of digital learning platforms is a crucial and integral part of our commitment to high quality teaching and learning for all our pupils. As a school, we are committed to providing all pupils with the digital resources, digital know-how and expert support from their teachers to enable them to access the very highest levels of learning, during lessons and also beyond the classroom. As a school, we recognise that digital learning must play a key role in learning, if we are to equip our pupils with the necessary skills to be successful as independent, self-regulated and ambitious learners, keen to embrace the challenges they face in the classroom and beyond.

Google Classroom.

The digital learning platform we use at Weaverham High School is Google Classroom as we feel that this enables us to provide the best combination of easy access for pupils, resources for use in lessons and at home and offers a range of tools which can be used by both teachers and pupils to support digital learning, therefore providing a real impact upon the quality of teaching and learning and ultimately pupil outcomes and achievement.

Chrome Books.

As a school, we believe that no pupil should be denied the opportunity to learn due to lack of IT, Internet access or technological know-how. Therefore, our Digital Learning Lead monitors carefully the digital needs of all our pupils and responds accordingly, including the loaning of Chrome Books to any pupil for whom access is an issue. Chrome Books will be used by pupils who are working remotely from lessons whilst in school, for example, in the Hive in order to receive extra support, or due to internal isolation.

Use of Google Classroom.

Our use of Google Classroom includes three key areas;

• Absence – In the event that a pupil is absent from the lesson, (internal or external absence) the teacher will either live stream the lesson (internal absence) or provide all work on the Google Classroom. This will enable any gaps in learning to be addressed by the pupil. It will also allow the teacher to respond to any concerns raised by the pupil due to their missed learning. In the case of absence due to illness, it is the responsibility of the pupil to access the Google Classroom and complete any missed work once they are able to do so.

• Access – Each teacher will provide all the necessary resources on their Google Classroom. This will include; knowledge organisers, checklists and any materials required for key topics. This will allow pupils to prepare for future lessons or return to previous lessons as part of retrieval and consolidation of prior learning. All materials will be easily accessible for all pupils and will support on-going learning.

• Home Learning tasks.

Teachers will set all home-learning tasks on the Google Classroom. This will enable pupils to keep track of all home-learning assignments and submit digitally or in the lesson.

• Scaffolding and Challenge.

Resources may be differentiated to enable pupils to access materials most suitable to their learning need; including level of depth and detail, exam materials linked to their target grade/minimum expected grade or extra SEND support if required.

• Learning beyond the lesson – retrieval.

Teachers will provide links to revision platforms such as GCSE Pod (Year 9-11) and Seneca (Year7-8) or You Tube clips, which pupils will be expected to use as part of their own independent learning beyond the lesson. Teachers will provide instructions on their own Google Classroom.

• Assessment – Teachers will use their Google Classroom to assess pupil understanding and progress in a range of ways. This may include formative comment on submitted work or outcomes from common knowledge tests completed on-line. Teachers will assess pupil knowledge and understanding in a range of ways, using work submitted digitally as well as work submitted in person.
