Annie Without question, a highlight of last half term was our annual school production and this year we were astounded by ‘Annie’.
The 2 hour extravaganza was an all singing, all dancing triumph and showcased the talents of the performers brilliantly. Lydia Wood’s portrayal of the orphan was sublime and her delightful confidence as an accomplished actor and singer was a joy to watch. The comic honours have to go to Kathryn Gilbody for her genius representation of the cruel and slovenly Miss Hannigan and David Quinn for his timely ad-libs as the billionaire businessman Oliver Warbucks – stars in the making. The sets and costumes were fantastic as too was the attitude of the orphans as they stomped and mopped their way through mesmerizing choreography. Signature songs such as Easy Street, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile and Tomorrow, struck a chord with the audience. The number of hours of rehearsal to deliver such a professional piece of theatre cannot be underestimated and I thank all the cast and of course the incredible staff, in particular, Miss Jones ( a wonderful directorial debut) and Mrs Clarke, who gave up their time to make it happen. Experiences such as this will remain with our pupils for a significant amount of time and we hope it develops self-confidence, self-belief and the realisation that their talent is a real gift and should be cherished.
