Students at Weaverham High School are provided with an extensive range of coherently planned opportunities to promote their wider personal development and help them ‘Aspire To Inspire’. These range from

• A recently re-devised ‘LIFE’ curriculum that includes Relationships, Sex and Health Education and reflects the PSHE association themes of Relationships, Health & Wellbeing and Living In The Wider World
• Excellent Careers, Education, Information & Guidance (CEIAG) that continuously supports aspirations and secures success for students within accessing preferred Post-16 course choices
• An extensive enrichment programme featuring a wider range of recreational, competitive and wellbeing related activities within the fields of Sport, the Arts,
• Outstanding range of educational visits, trips and activities (including Duke of Edinburgh Award, Ski trips, CAMPS International Expeditions to Borneo and Kenya, Charitable Visits to support a Romanian Orphanage, Frencvh and German Exchange Visits, 5-Day personal development residential for Year 7 to Condover Hall, Shropshire and National Youth Rowing Programme to support aspirations of pupil premium students)
• A vast range of sporting, leadership, charitable and wellbeing support opportunities.
• Mental Health & Wellbeing support
• Personal Development Assembly themes linked to local, national and global themes that develop students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural capital

We are truly blessed to have a staff team that invest in our children beyond the classroom and who go ‘above and beyond’ in providing such an extensive enrichment programme in the interests of students wider, personal development.

We Develop:

• Pupils’ understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, individual liberty, the rule of law and mutual respect and tolerance

• Pupils to recognise online and offline risks to their wellbeing – for example, risks from criminal and sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, substance misuse, gang activity, radicalisation and extremism – and making them aware of the support available to them
• Pupils to recognise the dangers of inappropriate use of mobile technology and social media

• Readiness for the next phase of education, training or employment so that pupils are equipped to make the transition successfully

Impact:

Whilst the impact of many areas of our personal development provision – including PSHCE, RSE and Wellbeing provision – can only be measured later in life and once students have left Weaverham High School, we believe that our Personal Development provision enables the overwhelming majority of our students to ‘Aspire to Inspire’ and become well-informed, productive and successful members of their communities and a global society. 2023 ‘destinations data’ supports this belief and indicates that 98% of students were successful in gaining their preferred ‘next steps’ within Further Education, Employment and Training.

Student Leadership Structure

Our Vision

Student leadership is an important part of our school Aspire to Inspire ethos. We are committed to developing excellence within leadership and believe that developing our students’ character helps prepare them for life during and beyond Weaverham High School.

It is important for students to experience leadership opportunities during their schooling, to learn the art of building relationships within teams, defining identities and achieving tasks effectively. It also provides an opportunity to learn, identify and display effective communication and interpersonal skills.

On a daily basis we offer a range of formal and informal leadership opportunities across the school whether it be within Head Student roles, Year Team Ethos Leadership Groups, form groups, Sports Leaders, Library Leaders and/or subject-specific leadership opportunities. These occur during social time or throughout our wide-ranging leadership and enrichment programme.

We also aim to develop pupils understanding of leadership via both practical leadership roles and theoretical leadership studies, starting with ‘being able to lead oneselve’, progressing to ‘leading others’, all the way through to ‘leading futures’. This ensures all pupils are provided with opportunity to develop their understanding of positive leadership qualities that will boost their wider personal development and help them secure successful fuures.

At Weaverham we have adopted the Pixl LORIC programme. Through research, conducted by Education and industry partners, a list of desirable qualities for the workplace have been identified. The LORIC programme is centred around the 5 most representative employability skills – Leadership / Organisation / Resilience / Initiative / Communication. Students will be encouraged to reflect and deepen their understanding within each of these 5 values/skills.

YEAR 7 Residential Personal Development course

The focus of the course is on personal development; communication; leadership and organisational skills. Our pupils will be engaged in a wide range of activities involving teamwork; problem solving and physical activity, both indoors and outdoors, aimed to build and boost self-confidence and self-esteem.

All of the skills we focus on are invaluable throughout a school career and are obviously transferable to both home life and life after school. I hasten to add that we also aim to have a great deal of fun and I promise that new lifelong friendships will be created.

The Pastoral Support Team feel that this residential is the most important trip that the school organises throughout your child’s five years at Weaverham. Ex-pupils have fond memories of their experience on the Year 7 residential and we encourage all pupils to make the most of this valuable opportunity.

We feel that going forward it is an extremely beneficial course that pupils can both look back on with great memories but also use those educational and social skills to help them through the following four years. We, therefore, want all pupils in the year group to attend, experience the great activities; bonding; making new friends; developing personal skills and basically having a fun time that they’ll never forget.
